The "Fire Dancer Story" refers to the ceremonial fire dances performed by Crown Dancers during a Mescalero Apache girl's coming-of-age ceremony, which is not a single myth but a tradition rooting in the belief of bringing blessings, driving away evil spirits, and blessing the community and the fire itself. The dancers, also known as Mountain God dancers, perform around a large bon-fire, carrying prayers to heaven. This dance is a component of a multi-day ritual where the girl undergoes tests of strength and received blessings to become a woman, with the whole community gathering to support and partake in the event.
